Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F. Grease an 8×12-inch baking dish.

  2. Rinse halibut and pat dry. Arrange steaks side by side in the prepared dish.

  3. In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, sour cream, flour, salt, lemon juice, onion, and cayenne pepper; stir until smooth.

  4. Spoon mixture evenly over halibut steaks.

  5. Bake uncovered until fish is opaque in the thickest part, about 20–25 minutes.

  6. Sprinkle Cheddar cheese over fish and return to oven just until cheese melts, about 2 minutes.

  7. Transfer to a warmed platter and serve immediately.
