Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees.

  2. Line 3 large cookie sheets with parchment paper or plain paper (brown grocery bags).

  3. Beat egg whites, salt, and cream of tartar until foamy. Add vanilla and beat until soft peaks form. Add sugar very gradually and slowly, beating until peaks are stiff. Fold in chocolate pieces.

  4. Drop mixture by teaspoons (do not make too big!) onto prepared pans. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes. Let cool on paper. Store in uncovered container.
